There is a fear many people carry when it comes to fully following Jesus: What if I lose too much? What if following Christ costs relationships, plans, freedom, or the future we imagined for ourselves? In a culture centered on the self, the call of Jesus to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him can feel costly and unsettling. Yet Jesus does not only call us away from something; He calls us into something greater. In this sermon, we are reminded that when we follow Christ, we receive the hundredfold—His people, the church—a community shaped and formed by God that makes the cost of following Him worth it.
